I have inherited an L. C. Smith side-by-side twelve guage shotgun and have so far been unable to identify it from the online resources. The barrels are 12 gauge and are nearly black. They measure 28 inches long. I cannot see any markings on them whatsoever (maybe there are some under the forend but I'm not inclined to remove it). The barrels appear to have ejectors, and there is a brass aiming dot on the slightly concave rib between the barrels.
The receiver has a quail engraved on the left side and a woodcock on the right, but other than that it is not terribly ornate; just some little swirls and a few small round sunburst- or compass-like things. The receiver has double triggers, and the serial number "7966" in engraved in the inlaid extension behind the trigger guard. The only other writing I can find is the words "L. C. Smith" on either side of the hinge area.
The beavertail forend is checkered, and so is the "pistol-grip" on the stock. The pistol-grip is rounded on the bottom and does not have an end-cap. There are no other carvings on the stock, and the butt-plate appears to be plastic. The stock (but not the rest of the gun) looks like the "crown" stock shown here:

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Don't worry - I'm not going to ask you to tell me what it's worth.
