I have written about my "rescued Elsie" and received some very good information. I really appreciate the new FAQ section - especially the part on cleaning. My Elsie has two sets of barrels and two separate forends - all have the same serial number - it is a featherweight specialty grade in 12 gauge. One of the forends has a crack on each side where the forend meets the receiver - does not seem to be serious, but I would like to switch forends and use the one which is not cracked, although it is not the one matched to the short barrels I wish to shoot. Can I switch forends at will? Secondly, should I be concened about these cracks, they are about one inch long and do not seem to be a result of excess oil on the wood? Any way to fix these cracks? Thanks for your advice.
