Snap Caps Make your Smith hard to open? Archived Message

I know this has been discussed many times on this forum. I too had a problem with the snap caps I use in my Grade 3E. After firing one or both barrels the gun would be very hard to open. The problem was the firing pins were hanging up on the plunger holes of the snap caps. This was obvious in the damage it was causing to the caps. Eventually this could lead to the firing pins being excessively worn or broken. So, if you use snap caps that can be taken apart here is the fix.
Before..Notice the notches torn out by the firing pins.

After...I used a Dremel tool and beveled the edge so that the firing pins do not catch on the edge of the plunger hole.

Here is the before and after.
