    Zulu Conversion Archived Message

Between the end of the Northern War of Aggression and WW-I the mail order houses and hardware stores sold train loads of these old obsolete muskets converted to breechloaders, under probably as many names as are found on H&D Folsom's cheap doubles. These conversions called "Zulu" in the December 1884 E.C. Meacham Arms Co. catalogue sold for $3.53. These, and the Civil War muskets bored out to 20-gauge muzzleloader shotguns with the forestock shortened, which sold for even less, were really the guns that won the west, not those expensive Colts and Winchesters of Hollywood!!
