Dan, Looking more closely at the wood in the buttstock, I'd suggest it is a replacement as it is several grades above the usual Hunter Bros. field grade wood. I'd also remove the trigger guard and see if the buttstock is numbered to the gun-i.e. "original". tha color case is very good for such a gun-quite a find! Regarding lengthening the stock, well there are all kinds of options, from cheap to expensive. However, I'd lean to adding to rather than restocking(too expensive!) BILL
