I was looking at a hammerless extractor 12 gauge yesterday SN 307xx. It has damascus barrels and double ivory beads. The butt plate says LC Smith Trap gun or maybe grade I'm not sure. It had a #2 stamped on the barrel reinforcement splinter but nowhere else on the gun or forearm. All SN's match. Is this common to not see a number or grade stamped on the receiver? From looking through Johns' and Brophys' book I was wondering if this could have happened because of the transition from Syracuse to Fulton. Any ideas would be helpful.
