    Tom,

Nice find on that gun. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center houses the remaining L.C. Smith/Hunter Arms records. More than likely, -they will have some info on your gun. You can call them at 307-578-4031 and request a Cody Letter from them. This letter will contain some info about your gun, i.e. it's original configuration, perhaps its start date of production and finish date as well as shipment date and perhaps even whom ordered the gun. This comes at a cost of $55.00 to non members of the BBHC (Buffalo Bill Historical Center) but is well worth the cost. You might also request to obtain a copy of the ledger from which they derive this information from for your personal records as well.

Other than that, you can provide the serial number of your gun and someone here will tell you about the year or you can find that yourself via this website. There is a function which allows you to entere in your serial number and the results will be the year of the gun.

Hope this helps...please consider joining the L.C. Smith Collectors Association. You won't find another group of people with as much info on these L.C. Smith guns anywhere else.
