Is an 'Ithaca' NIG an L. C. Smith Archived Message

    Greetings.....
I recently came into ownership of a 'New Ithaca Gun'(NIG), serial #9595. It was made in 1889 with the Baker locking system. It appears from the table shown on page 59 of John Houchins new book, that the maker/manufacturer was L. C. Smith in Syracuse, N. Y. The barrel rib mentions Ithaca, N.Y.

In 1960 Ithaca clearly shows 9595 in the 'Baker Model Ithaca Double Guns category. Later, in 1994 Ithaca made serial number 'corrections' and moved some NIG guns under the Crass and NIG model category.

The question is whether ole 9595 'is' enough of an L. C. Smith to shoot in LCSCA shooting events? I hope so, because that's what I want to use it for. What do you think?

I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you in advance. Best, Roger Domer
