I was listening to a fella read the Declaration of Independence yesterday on the radio, and he wasn't just focusing on the "We hold these truths to be self-evident" part. He was looking deeper at the numerated list of grievences in the document against King George and why the men involved were risking everything they had to write that documet. It was troubling to hear how many of those issues are problems in the present day, such as the expanding tentacles of bureaucracies that act to choke-off basic freedoms, and the ever-increasing taxes (hidden and otherwise) needed to feed them.
