    hairline stock split Archived Message

I have a hairline split on the left side of the stock of my 12 gage field-grade featherweight. This runs from the butt plate (not the side plate) and was probably caused when someone bored a hole through the back to fill with lead to add ballast. This was inexpertly repaired (i.e., filled with glue), but otherwise the stock is in good shape. There are no external cracks around the side plates. Rather than replace the stock eventually (seems very stable at present), I would rather get this repaired properly (meaning I can hardly see the crack, if at all) and ensure that the stock fingers around the side locks are properly strengthened/reinforced. I have spoken with Bob Fulton at Stockfixers in Wyoming, who seems very knowledgeable about these stock issues with respect to L.C. Smiths. My question is, has anyone on this site had any dealings with him? Other recommendations would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance. This site is terrific, and I'm sending in my membership today.
