LC Smith Team WINS Hammer Gun Challenge! Archived Message

This morning the LC Smith team won the Hammergun Challenge against an elite Parker Hammergun team. This event was scored by comparing the average scores of the members of the two teams. The LC Smith team broke an average of 15.9 birds out of a possible 25 on the five stand course. The Parker team broke an average of 15.4. If you think it out, this was a substantial margin of victory.

In my opinion hammer guns are the quintessential American classic shotguns so this victory in the first hammergun challenge is particularly sweet.

Personally, signing up for the LC Smith team in the hammergun challenge was my most difficult ever decision as a shooter. I am not a marksman, although I enjoy shooting very much. I realized that if I shot poorly my score would bring down the team average. However, my affection for my own Smith hammergun and my desire for my "Elsie" to have a shot at the trophy compelled me to sign on. It was with a sense of enormous relief that I read my score of "17." I hadn't pulled down the average of our gallant Smith squadron! It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with some cool (awesome) Smith aficionados and to have shot the finest shotgun in the world.

The Parker team exhibited fine sportsmanship. May they have the opportunity to do so again next year!

Once again the Southern Side-by-Side was a memorable event!
