Tom, congratulations on your purchase, I know that you will be happy with it. There are other people that are more knowledgeable about your gun than myself, but since no one answered I will try to do my best. CH Jerred was an engraver for Hunter Arms and the L.C. Smith Gun Co., if you type in his name under search you will get some good information. Possibly he did the engraving. The receiver would have been case hardened-colored. I believe the book by Brophy, "Plans and Specifications of the L.C. Smith Shotgun" might give specs on your gun. The correct pad I believe might be a Hawkins or a Silvers as they were an option, and I believe you could get what was available at the time. As far as restoring it, if you want it to look like new, it will be an expensive venture. The side-locks and receiver will have to be polished to remove all old finish, pitting if any, scratches, etc. Then it will have to be annealed and the engravings will be brought back to original, then it will be case hardened-colored. The barrels will have to be stripped of the old finish and then rust-blued. The trigger guard the same. Lastly the stock will be stripped, refinished and the checkering re-cut. A guess would be about $4,000. You could contact Dr. Bill Hambidge on this site about some of the work, and re-doing the engraving our own Ken Hurst. Best of luck and keep us posted, also hope you become a member of the L.C. Smith Collectors Association.
