Help in identifying my inheritence?Archived Message

I inherited a 12 ga. double bbl., single trigger, L. C. Smith. It has Crown Grade stamped on top of the right barrel, and "Made to Order by the Hunter Arms Co. Inc. Fulton NY" on the left barrel. It has a gold crown on the top of the ejector lever. Beavertail forearm - dark wood, which maybe walnut. A two dogs scene on each side of action with much engraving all around. The serial number is RE104939, with an engraved manufacture date of May 25, 1901. I believe everything on the gun is as it was manufactured. From what I can find the Crown grade was not even made until after 1913, and the link on this website says the manufacture date should be 1899. I don't understand the descrepancy. Can anyone educate me? Also is this gun worth much? It sure is a good lucking gun. The blueing is not perfect, but the barrels are in great shape. The stock has a slight split on each side and my grandfather did some hand checkering on it, which probably won't help matters any. Thanks in advance.
