Smith Engraver Charles Jerred Archived Message

Many posters have noted and commented on posts I have made from time to time referencing my research on Smith engraver, Charles Jerred. Mr. Jerred was truly an amazing individual, and the information I gathered came from solid sources; his best friend, his son and even from his own words (a college essay regarding his thoughts on becoming a master engraver). For those who are interested, the first part of that story will be in the Spring issue of the DGJ (and I take no credit for a couple of the photo captions which either make no sense, or are incorrect). If you are into Smith guns, you should make a point to read this story (in spite of the fact that it was written by me), as it provides that rare opportunity for some understanding and insight of the difficult circumstances and situations that served to mold the character and personality of this little known and brilliant Hunter Arms employee.
