Fred: please see my response below your first post. BTW: with the 32" brls and Beavertail Forend, your grandfather may well have used this gun to shoot trap.
You may have seen this advice, but be sure and fully open the gun to cock the hammers before removing the forend. I'd suggest you get a pair of 12g snap caps (like A-Zoom) to place in the chambers, then pull the triggers to let the hammers down, for storage.
