I just obtained an L C Smith Specialty Grade, 20 gauge, 30" barrels, all original and weighs 6 lb 2 oz. Serial number is 8280E and has the letter "S" under the serial number on both the barrel flats and on the watertable. The serial number dates about 1913 but appears to fall between two numbering sequences---can anybody help me out here? What does the "S" mean? At 6 lb 2 oz I would think that it might be a lightweight, especially with 30" barrels. I will be ordering the new Smith book but in the meantime would appreciate any comments you may have.
