    The engrving pattern you describe is consistent with a pre-1913 Grade 3 (the "long-billed grouse" are actually woodcock) The serial number would indicate a gun without auto-ejectors meaning it is a manual extractor model, and will be less valuable than an auto-ejector gun in the same condition. We can't give you a ship date for this gun because the serial number records for pre-13 manual extractor hammerless Smith guns above 45999 are lost to time. As to value, value is entirely subjective and dependant on many factors. I suggest you check the Blue Book of Gun Values to determine a value range; then have at least two professionals give you their wholesale and retail appraisals (what they would pay and what they would ask for the gun), the actual value will be somewhere between those two numbers.
