Mike, I have a small gun shop and have done repair work since l971. I think one has to use the blue book as a tool. On an L.C. Smith, grade, case color blueing, stock condition, cracks behind the lock plates, bad screws, bore condition and general wear, needs to be considered into the value. I don't agree with the blue book prices for buying purposes. It might look good and be a Klunker. I suppose case color is the biggest factor, followed by blueing and last, stock condition. It cost a $1000 dollars to restock a Smith. One needs to use the blue book to his or her atvantage when going by its prices. Better not forget what gauge is the shotgun? I know some will disagree with me but that is fine, this is a buyers world.
