With a serial number in the 20xxx range, these plates are from a Syracuse address Smith gun (pre-1890); and, as grade stamps were not placed on sideplates; but on frames and barrels, we cannot determine a grade. From surviving guns, we know early Syracuse Grade 2 guns do not have engraved sideplates; and that Grade 4 guns from this era typicaly feature a pointing dog, so I would speculate the engraving quality as being somewhere in between. All I can tell you is that it is atypical; so you can use your imagination (speical order, employee gun, etc).
