Just for fun I checked Brophys serial list on A3, A2 and pre 13 Monograms. There were 7 28" and only 1 26" gun listed as 12ga. Of course we all know this list is not complete, but it is a good indication that barrels shorter than 30" are rare in pre 13 12ga guns. I am sure they made some because I have a Specialty 12 that has a set of 2E 26' barrels on it that I am confident are original length, the chokes are at least 3' long. They are choked I/C and Mod and made in 1904 marked with a 2 on forend iron ans forend hanger on the barrel, I assume the original gun was a 2 barrel set. Any one have a 2E #203026?
