Jerry, our "sweet elsies" were proofed by the factory-just as Parkers, Foxes, LeFevers were- to about what equates to our 15,000 to 20,000psi. The actions are strong enough, the wood probably is not. Sidelocks by their nature have less wood to absorb recoil than boxlocks, hence Drew's caution on Fiocchi GP boomers. Remember that pressure does not enter the equations for recoil at all. It is recoil that destroys stocks, not pressure. Pressure is only a general indicator of "kick"/recoil. Glass bedding/"Krazy glue", etc. all help but remember 3 inch magnums in the 1930's are not even close to todays 2.75" short mags. About the most that most of us use is 1 1/8 oz. at 1150-1200 fps. Occasionally I'll shoot Winchester Super Pigeon loads at box birds, but that is only 40 shots per shoot and I have restocked my gun and glass bedded it. Welcome to the arcane and happy world of "Sweet Elsies". Best, Dr. BILL
