The Crown Grade came out in 1913 and lasted till 1945 under the Hunter Arms Company of which 842 wee made. Later under the L.C. Smith Gun Company they made another 48. Your friends FWE means it is a Featherweight with ejectors. The patent date is for the Automatic Ejector System. There were plenty of options for this gun and some of them might be on the water tables of the receiver.
Blue Book of Gun Values 26th Edition lists the Crown Grade as: 95% condition $7,000 90% $5,500, 80% $4,500, 70% $3,100 60% $4,000. Also and most important add 33% for 16 ga., so 90% condition is now $9,310, and so on.
Everything is on condition, and the better condition as you can see brings the most as with everything.
Collectors are really only interested in at least 90% and or with a lot of options.
