It is a Field Grade made in 1940, second year for the Single Sighting Plane rib, now an option at no extra charge. The Hawkins pad sounds right. The small beavertail forend, probably a replacement.
Does it have an oval stamp with Chambers 3 Inch on the barrels water table or did someone tell you it was 3" chambers? I find it odd that a gun with 26" barrels imp.cyl./mod would have 3" chambers.
I don't know what the XX means in front of the 3 inch chamers.
You should read some of the other posts on shooting today's modern shells. I know I wouldn't shoot any heavy loads. Should stay under 8,000 psi.
