Your gun was made right at the time frame that L.C. Smiths changed from a 2 9/16" chamber to the modern 2 3/4" chambers. The only way to know for sure is to have the chambers measured for length. It is probably not dangerous to shoot 2 3/4" shells in the shorter chamber, as there is only a slight pressure rise, but there may be more recoil, which is not good for the L.C. Smith stock. Lengthening the chambers is a fairly simple procedure, so any recommendation of a gunsmith to do the task will be influenced by your location.
