L.C. Smiths are noted for lost forends. In 1913 Hunter Arms Co. catalogue announced a new forend fastener, the Curtis Forend, lasted till 1919 when a change order by the company announced it to be removed, possibly a patent infringement by someone else. It also stated that surplus ejector forends would be applied to R and FW non ejector guns, except Field Grade.
