Single trigger elsie doubling... Archived Message

    All-

I was speaking with some folks at the vintagers shoot today, and they suggested I post here.

I have a single trigger Ideal grade in 12ga with what I am told is probably a "Hunter 1" trigger (whatever that is). On the whole, it's in VG+ condition, retaining 80% or so of the color, and the barrels are 95%+. It's a joy to shoot... except for one thing -

Every 20 or so shots, the gun will double on me. I'm a bit stumped, and looking for some advice or a competent gunsmith who's willing to work on the single trigger models (I was told today that the gunsmith the club generally recommends doesn't work on the single trigger models).

I'm reasonably competent, and I've had the gun apart to replace a few bits (it came to me with a broken firing pin and mainspring... both of which I have replaced) Is it possible that this could be caused by my choice of ammo being to "hot"? For the most part, I'm using 3 dram Estate loads.
