Couplers

Recently I was gifted a 12 gauge number 2 gun with a damascus barrel. Pretty gun but definitely a project piece. When disassembled I found the coupler to be fractured and held together only by the coupler screw. This was the first pre 1913 gun I ever had. I have several couplers but from post 1913 guns. With a caliper the distance from the center of the screw hole to the end of the coupler arm measures the same and the ones I have fit the top lever shaft well. The old coupler is slightly longer than the newer ones but only in areas that seem inconsequential. I just wanted to check and see if anyone knows if they are interchangeable. My feeling is they are. However multiple assemblies and disassemblies to find out is not my idea of fun. If anyone knows I’d appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance for any advice.
