I have just sent off for the research letter. 1910 pre-dates my grandpa's birthdate by a few years, so wondering if it might have been originally purchased by my great-grandfather?
My understanding is that my Dad did have the stock replaced once, but does not mean it might have an issue now as that would have been about 50 years ago. We lost him earlier this year so I can't verify what and when on the repair.
My Dad used this for years grouse hunting here in Minnesota, as did my older brother. Its just my younger brother and I hunting now (older brother moved to Florida). We use it for target practice just for the thrill of using it. It wasn't until I was cleaning it at the end of this last hunt that I became curious about L.C. Smith and Hunter Arms markings. All of which led me here and the discovery of the gun's age.
Definitely would like to give it a good check out, but asking a few shooting friends of mine came up empty on a smith they would recommend.
Will ask about the shell question in a different post.
