The 'S' prefix identifies the gun as manufactured after Marlin acquired Hunter Arms Co. in 1945.
As such, it will have 2 3/4" chambers and a Single Sighting Plane Rib
This is a 1949 ad
A Research Letter is likely to confirm to where the gun was originally shipped, and possibly the original purchaser
