The "Combined Automatic and Independent Safety" was patented by Alexander T. Brown and Wilbert Smith in 1886. It was standard on Hunter Arms Company guns from 1895 to 1902. Thereafter, it was available as a special order option until 1945. The .410 was introduced in 1926 so would have been a special order. Is the gun set up as a Skeet gun? Have you obtained a Research Letter and if so, is the 3 position safety specified?
