I recently acquired a Syracuse Grade 2 project gun (SN22764) from a fellow LCSCA member. It’s a 12ga with 32" fine Damascus barrels, LOP 14.25", and weighs in at 8lbs 4oz. I sent this information to David Williamson a couple weeks ago for his spreadsheet on Syracuse Guns (available on this website).
This morning I removed the original TRAP GUN butt plate to inspect the condition of the stock underneath and noticed a stamping in the tail end of the butt stock.
Its stamped 8 1/4 (see photo).
Since this is what the gun actually weighs, I suspect that this gun was ordered and made to a specific weight and was stamped to indicate its final weight.
Has anyone else seen a Syracuse gun with this stamping, or any LC Smith with a similar stamping?
I am interested in seeing examples of other Syracuse, LC Smith, Hunter Arms guns with similar stampings in the butt stock.
Best,
Steve
