The use of shells shorter than 2 3/4 are not necessary if you are using plastic hulls, I never worry on my old guns as the chambers were cut over size for the thicker mouth of the paper hull. There was a very good series of articles in the Double Gun Journal including pressure readings of over length shells shot in short chambers. No concerns were found fun shooting.
