I recently acquired an LC Smith shotgun from an elderly female. The shotgun was her late husbands and she refused to take any money for it. I've been trying to pin down an approximate date of manufacture and gauge as it is not stamped.
The serial number is FWS 8170. Only 8170 is stamped on the barrel. It is a field grade model. The left barrel does not have the hunter stamp. Further, i cannot verify, but it appears as though it may be a 16 gauge. But it it's not marked anywhere.
From my brief research, it appears that it was produced somewhere between 1945 and 1950. Due to the lower number I'm assuming 46ish? All the number on it match and the firearm is is great condition minus some loss of bluing and faded case hardening. The "NP" can still be read under the barrel and its stamped "armor steel". I know that marling purchased LC smith in 1945. Which is why I'm assuming that it's not marked with the hunter stamp on the left barrel. I just don't know the gauge (16/20, but def not 12) or the choke of the tubes
Would love to know about this shotgun as I am new to the LC Smith world. But the quality and lock up on this gun is phenomenal!! Everything works as it should. However I have not fired it. I want to have it inspected first.
Thanks in advance
