looking at an LC Smith Ideal 12ga

This doesn't seem to fit in any SN identification, so I am trying to put a date on the manufacture. It is from a private seller, I am considering purchase. Any details or wisdom from the forum appreciated on evaluating. It is reported to be a shooter. I want a shootable collector gun that I can pass on to my boys. I would like to start my collection with this if it is a desirable gun.
