I am a hobby gunsmith (or at least that's what I tell myself). I have done some refinishing work on my own guns that turned out ok, now some guys at work are bringing me their stuff to work on.
A guy brought me a L.C. Smith shotgun and asked if I could fix it up. From what I have been able to research, I believe it is a Fulton, NY 1906 hammer model. I took the forend iron off to clean it and a small flat spring broke and fell out. This spring, I believe, is a retainer for the big c-shaped forend spring that holds the forend to the barrel. I tried Numrich and there is no mention of this small flat spring. Is there anywhere I can buy one or am I going to have to make one?
Also, it is missing the left hammer. Again, I have scoured the internet and the only place that comes close is Dixie Gun Works. Does anyone know of a source for a type III C hammer (left hand)?
I wanted to cry when he brought it to work. It was covered in rust and the barrels were sawn down to 19". The action was tight. A real shame.
The other gun was a Stevens 315, I'm working on getting that one going for him.
Anyway, any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Allan
