I agree with you both, but it just seems funny that N.C. Ordinance would sell it as original, specific to L.C. Smith? It’s rather handsome and suspiciously similar to the dog head insert on forends for grade 2 and 3 guns. I thought that perhaps it could have been from another period double, like Parker, Fox, Ithaca, Remington, Lefever, Winchester, etc. but I don’t recall any of those to have a dog head grip cap either?
