LC Smith triggers reversed

I have a grade 2 from 1910, the positions of the triggers are reversed, ie: the rear trigger fires the right barrel, and the front trigger fires the left barrel. The barrels are choked the same, F/F and they are 32 " long. Is there a known reason why this gun is constructed this way? I just learned that one of my Sterlingworths is set up the same way. I am confused!
