The Curtis for-end was put on non ejector guns starting around 1912. Hunter Arms knew there was a problem with people loosing their for-ends on non ejector guns so they started putting the Curtis for-end on them. This practice stopped around 1919 probably because of a cost factor. After this all non ejector guns except the Field Grade had a roller release, the Field Grade was left on it's own with just the "J" spring to hold it on. I have never seen a beavertail for-end with a Curtis for-end latch.
