Re: The "Southern" Chamber Burst
I have been around several shotgun burst before.I was standing behind and off to the right of this burst.I was trying to get close to see the targets because I was one of the next shooters up.Some of the blown metal went past me and pruned the tree to my right.Out of all the burst I have been around, none have been this loud.I posted something on the Herters Ammo when it first came out on this site. The shells that I tried showed extreme high pressure signs. They stuck in my guns and had to be driven out with a rod. The rims of the shells flowed around the extractors.I regularly pick up any 16ga. hulls left at these shoots and bring them home for reloading.I have noticed that the Herters 16ga. hulls many times show signs of high pressure. They go thru my sizer much harder. When I reload them they do not show these signs. When this burst happened at The Southern,my son Chuck picked up the blown shell out of the trash can and later gave it back to the owner. We were told that this was a factory loaded Herters shell.I would love to see a pressure test of these particular shells run.Charlie.
