These vintage style shell boxes with shells will be on display and available at the LCSCA display table beneath the LCSCA/PGCA tent by the "dove field" (5-stand layouts). As these boxes and shells are entirely custom made items, the cost will be $25/box; or the same price as our 2017 vintage shell box promotion. For the record, there's a lot of labor and very little profit in these items. These items are primarily done as a fun and unique memento for our members, and all revenues over cost go towards the costs we must absorb in hosting the Challenge Event. We've done these promotions for several years now, but last year was the first event whereby we were able to offer vintage style 2-piece boxes stuffed with paper shells. Last year's effort was extremely successful, as our 10 case order was sold out before noon on Saturday; and we sincerely thank all of those who supported that effort, and all our other related Challenge Event efforts.
So why the limitation on numbers of boxes available? Well, obviously limiting production makes these items a bit more special; but the primary reasons are that these items are event specific, so shells not sold there would be difficult to move elsewhere; and unsold shells represent an expense to the LCSCA we prefer to avoid. And finally, and for those who are yet to be involved with this promotion, these things are a real PITA to provide. First of all, special arrangements are required with a shells manufacturer, as the shells we order require a custom loading machines set-up for what is a very small production quantity(and Morris Baker of RST has been fabulous to work with in that regard, so support RST every chance you get!). Once shell arrangements are completed, a vendor must be found who can supply vintage two-piece boxes; then a unique label must be created and printed. The boxes and labels are shipped separately, so each label must be individually glued to each box. But since shells aren't delivered until we meet with RST at the Southern, shell boxes can't be stuffed and the label sticking completed until we are actually in Sanford. So, as one can see, this is a very labor intensive project; but it is also fun; and something we thoroughly enjoy seeing our members appreciate. Again, we sincerely thank each member for their support of our annual shells project, as well as all the other promotions done for the benefit of our membership and the LCSCA. Tom
