2.O.F is the brain child of producer/writer and multi instrumentalist Tim Milliken. The band consists of various musicians, dancers, performers and artists all bound together by a love for music. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee and London, Tim is crafting his own genre of dance orientated pop music for a worldwide audience. Counting high profile names like Boy George amongst his fanbase,
Tim has been writing and producing music for years out of shear love for music.
As a band, the idea behind Tim’s project 2.O.F was to formulate a completely new brand of music to bring it to the forefront, blending a variety of styles and genres to create something beautiful. Essentially 2.O.F is about breaking the mould of pop and becoming the most unconventional, unorthodox, and exciting act possible.
The debut single from 2.O.F is upbeat and exciting, uncompromising and surprising in equal measure. It is music that inspires you to do something different and picks you up on a gloomy day. A combination of both the new and the old, 2.O.F are doing something different with conventional channels to music. They don’t care about accolades or praise they just want to make music that people can enjoy and invest in.
Music for 2.O.F is not about high profile names or locations associated with pop stardom, music to them is about passion, creativity, love and strength all of which is condensed and put into the craft and performance of their songs.
The meaning of 2.O.F means ‘Two on Fire’ which is exactly what the performance collective want to become. With an arsenal of future classic’s under their belt it is only a matter of time before 2.O.F becomes a household name.
Heather Savage July 21, 2019 Music Reviews
Multi-instrumentalist Tim Milliken’s 2.O.F. project delivers a stunning debut single in “Darling Anna,” the first cut off of the three-song EP The Machine, which is out now and garnering a lot of attention from critics this summer. “Darling Anna” fuses the emotive lyrics of modern pop with reflective, almost atmospheric rhythm, soulful vocal harmonies and a brittle synthesized backdrop that is startlingly expressive, despite its limited reach in the master mix. There’s something to satisfy everyone in this incredibly well-rounded single, and though 2019 has yet to disappoint hardcore pop fans, I must admit that this rookie release from 2.O.F. stands up with the very best of that I’ve heard on either side of the Atlantic.
Instrumentally speaking, “Darling Anna” is a remarkably stirring composition that puts a lot of emphasis on organic tonality (a bit of an oddity among synthesizer-driven pop music these days). The synths create an unmistakable sense of yearning that the vocal track will spend the better part of three and a half minutes trying to comfort, and while their contrasting colors yield a surreal finish for the song, they don’t water-down the mainstream accessibility of this single at all whatsoever. On the contrary, I think that “Darling Anna” sounds all the sexier this season, which by and large has featured a much more streamlined look among pop musicians than what 2.O.F. is producing here. This is a uniquely stylish offering, and better yet, it doesn’t feel even slightly derivative nor tethered to some larger movement within the industry today.
There’s no real climax in this song, but that doesn’t mean there’s no catharsis. From the moment that the music gets started, we’re met with a relaxed vibe that extends itself over the entirety of the track. There isn’t so much an ebb and flow to the percussion as there is a steady flow of tender beats, which makes the transition into the chorus perfectly seamless. We’re never challenged to contemplate the lyrical narrative, and though the centerpiece hook is memorable and swinging, it doesn’t grind with the same intensity that a more contemporary compositional linchpin would. Milliken is clearly putting a lot of time and effort into making the material that his new project is pumping out as personalized and unrecycled as possible, and it’s resulting in some seriously premium content – to say the least.
I cannot wait to hear more from 2.O.F., and if you haven’t already, I highly advise taking a peek at the new extended play The Machine the next time that you’re in the market for new music. Like “Darling Anna,” its counterparts on The Machine – the title track and “Birthday – are equally stimulating and aesthetically communicative, and even though the summer is far from over, I have a feeling that the splash they’re making right now is going to be one that we end up talking about well into the year’s end. This is an unparalleled time for independent music, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, and Tim Milliken’s 2.O.F. is keeping up with this increasingly fast-paced period for pop culture amazingly well.
