News Bite: Barbie Atelier

Mattel Creations did a big reveal today across many of their lines. The barbie reveal was Barbie Atelier, a 14.5-inch Silkstone with glass eyes and 23 points of articulation. She is Platinum Label, designed by Suim Noh and, unfortunately, retails for $300.

I have mixed feelings about this doll for a lot of reasons. That said, no matter how I feel about her, I can't justify paying $300 for her right now. Not when I'm not 100% totally in love with her. I don't like MTM bodies. I despise the arm joints on this doll. Her hands remind me of Mr. Roboto from the Styx video. Her outfit? I do love. But not at that price point.

Big pass. She'd be a big pass at $30.

Most of my dolls are the 16" (well, 15 to 16) fashion doll. I am hesitant because at 14.5" she quite possibly will not be proportioned well to photograph with them. I love the articulation, and I think her face is cute. The outfit is cute, but she would probably be out of it 10 mins. after she arrived. LOL. It would help if Mattel would post her measurements , but I haven't seen that anywhere. Also, I assume this is the prototype, and I have spent decades buying based on a prototype and getting something QUITE different. All in all, I like her. Sure wish they had gone to 16".
