They are really making too many. I would strongly recommend watching that Youtube video where someone goes up and down every aisle of Toy Club in California

Now kids can say, "I owned that very forgettable doll that was packaged with a refrigerator". Mattel used to put out about 10 well-planned playline Barbies per year, now it's about 500 generic looking dolls that are on the shelf for one year, then another 500 next year. Not sure why Mattel makes so many dolls that most consumers don't even see half of them before the next batch is released. It was nice when kids could identify that they owned the Superstar Barbie, or Twist n Turn Barbie, or Color Magic Barbie, or Generation Girl Barbie. I don't think Mattel even puts the name of the seires on packages anymore

I was reading an article that says they are in talks for a Barbie movie sequel, but they are not going well. If they don't start in a few months, the rights return to Mattel and they would be starting at ground zero. The talent is demanding a large chunk, and I have no idea why they wouldn't give it to them, considering the success of the first movie. The thing that stood out in the article to me was this though:
"Sales of Barbie dolls are also down after a pop in 2023 tied to the movie, and Mattel marketing leadership recently announced that the toy will be heavily rebranded as a fashion icon — with more clothes and accessories to accompany her on the shelf."
Ummm, wasn't she supposed to be a fashion icon before? Trust Mattel to muck it up, and then pretend they are "rebranding" her.
While I do welcome the idea, I think it is pretty short sighted that they lost track of this in the first place. They totally took the play value out of her, and then wonder why kids didn't want to play! LOL
