You guys know I love my convention items. Especially the strange ones.
The 1988 NBDCC in Seattle had one of the quirkiest centerpieces ever - Barbie head flowers!
I've seen them with any number of heads over the years. TNT, Hair Fair, Superstar, and Malibu to name a few. If they're for sale, I buy them.
Well in Austin I was given one of these as a gift. It wasn't as well taken care of as some of the others. It was a little grungy. Some brown water spots. But it had a Western Barbie head and I committed to saving it. I'd never seen that head before and assumed I never would because it's not just the head but the winking mechanism inside. The face is a "skin" much like the Terminator in the movies. Using this? Took some doing.
And save it I did. Sadly I forgot to take before pictures but suffice it to say, the "petals" were a dingy yellow-gray color. Nothing sparkled. Took me about five days of restoration, but here she is looking (almost) as good as new
