I'm sorry to report that long-time Barbie collector and community member Dick Tashin passed away over the weekend. He and his partner, Glenn Mandeville, were long-time members of the Delaware Valley Doll Club here in PA.
Most people remember him from his Barbie artwork in Barbie Bazaar, convention posters and other places. To me, he was also part of the partnership that brought the 1996 "Barbie and the Bandstand" convention to life. It was that convention, even more than the Baltimore con, that launched the event into the modern era and helped it become what it is today.
Among my most treasured possessions is the Bandstand Beau Ken. Although I bought mine on the secondary market (I missed out in 96) the one I bought was signed by Dick. It was a wonderful tribute to a convention that he helped create.
