One of my coveted vintage Barbie cases with my vintage Barbie and fashions.
This entire package was bought at an antique market. My friend was there saw the case, doll, and fashions and called me to let me know that all looked in mint condition. She asked if I wanted her to negotiate a deal for not only this item but there was also a vintage Francie case, doll, and fashions. She had a great eye for vintage and antique items, so I told her absolutely yes, she paid on my behalf and of course I reimbursed her.
The vinyl on this case is in excellent condition, with cracks or splits. The case was left closed for quite some time, so when I opened it a couple of weekends ago, the inside had a musty odor and the casings for the drawers were starting to rot, they were glued into the case. My wonderful husband on Father's Day carefully removed the casings, got rid of the glue, wiped out the case, and created two new custom cardboard casings for the drawers. The drawers are in great condition. I continued to clean the inside of the caseand let it air out opened. I carefully washed, and lined dried the fashions that were slightly stained, and air dried the rest of the fashions to rid of any smell. It turned out better than I expected, and everything looks like new and better. Not all of the vintage Barbie fashions bought with this case are pictured-Enchanted Evening with the stole, Nighty Negligee set-are now stored in another non-Barbie vintage case. I now store this case slightly opened and leave the door to that closet opened as well. The drawers hold all kinds of accessories-vintage shoes, gloves, purses.
The vintage Francie case is excellent with no storage issues. I will take pictures for next Tuesday.
Lesson to be learned by me is never leave your vintage cases stored closed. I am thinking that the issue was with the deteriorating glue in the case.
It all ended well because not only do I treasure my entire Barbie collection, but I have a special place in my heart for my vintage collection.
Have super day everyone.
