Ask for references in groups. Ebay is a bit safer and reputable doll stores are easy to spot. In part because there are so few left and because they have both online & in-person reputations to maintain.
Vintage has come down in price lately. I collect vintage so I've seen this first hand, particularly at the national Barbie convention. Other dolls are still high.
My co-moderator, Margie, is a vintage ID whiz and knows most things off the top of her head or with a little research.
As the others have said, if you have questions, please feel free to ask. We have a great group of collectors here that are always willing to share their knowledge!
Finally, Poodle Parade is a great choice to start with!
hi there!
my name's trip. i'm a 26 year old dog groomer in chicago and i'm obsessed with barbie. i always wanted to collect, and now that i can....i'm so excited to do so. my fiance has pushed me to start doing what i love and now i'm going to.
anyway...
i'm looking for tips on how to spot good sellers in different marketplaces, if there are certain shops i should avoid/go to, etc.. i'm specifically looking for poodle parade barbie (i'm totally okay with reproduction for my first one--but i'd like a vintage one too, at some point)..i'm also looking to make some friends in the community, some people that i can talk to and share this hobby with.
thank you all for reading, cannot wait to meet more folks and enjoy the happiness barbie brings me
