Otherwise I was thinking maybe about buying an older brown pair of "squishy" Barbie boots, cutting off the heel to then glue these DD boot bottoms on - they are nice wood cut to resemble the vintage cork bottoms. At least then I would preserve some of the original boots.
My other idea is perhaps first try picking off all the flaky vinyl and then using a fabric paint to recover the boot. Fabric paint has an extender in it that helps prevent cracking. How feasible and/or time consuming is the question and I don't know yet if I want to answer it. 😉
