The Elizabeth Taylor version of Cleopatra was released in 1963 but filmed in 1961 and 1962 so Mattel could have been inspired. It was all over newspapers and magazines, especially for the off-screen drama with Taylor/Richard Burton/Eddie Fisher.
This video reminds me of Francie for some reason. I heard somewhere that Ruth Handler named Francie after Sally Field since that show was brand new, and Gidget's name was Francis or (Francie as a nickname). I think I read it in the same article that Alan was the real husband of Barbie, and the Fashion Queen's outfit was made after Cleopatra's, but the Fashion Queen was made in 1963 and Cleopatra was made in 1965? I do believe that there was a Caesar / Cleo movie in 1946? Well, anyway here is the link below:
