I can’t help myself. I’m a convention doll junkie. So when this centerpiece from the Frank Sinatra table at the 2006 Barbie convention in LA popped up for a good price, I had to snag it, adding the second of the three LA centerpieces to my collection. Paying homage to the classic film “Guys and Dolls,” Barbie is standing atop a representation of some of the names, hand prints and footprints on the sidewalk outside of Grauman's’s Chinese Theater.
Due to the fragility/instability of the stand and where the peg is inserted to the base, Barbie tends to be a bit tippy. However, she still has her “Frank Sinatra Table” wrist tag, which I love.
This base, stand, acrylic piece is similar in design to the one used two years later in Kansas City for the Dovima and the Elephants centerpiece, though they improved the stand by that time. Over time, the paper and laminate “sidewalk” has become brittle so I don’t set it up all that often. The next time it will be set up is when I finally finish my doll room and it goes on permanent display.
